Andrea R. Levy is a 2005 Graduate of Suffolk University Law School in Boston, Massachusetts where she graduated Cum Laude and is a member of the Phi Delta Phi Legal Fraternity, Rhenquist Inn. While in law school Ms. Levy worked for the Family Law Advocacy Project providing legal services for indigent clients in the Probate and Family Court in Suffolk County. She also worked for the Juvenile Justice Center where she assisted in the representation of juveniles in criminal cases. Ms. Levy assisted in implementing and organizing a Teen Dating Domestic Violence Clinic in Jamaica Plain, providing information and help to teens in various Community Centers throughout the Boston area, in the area of domestic violence.
Prior to going to law school, Ms. Levy received her Master’s Degree in Developmental Psychology in 2002 from Brandeis University. While working on her degrees Ms. Levy did extensive research and work in the area of domestic violence. Her Master’s Thesis dealt with the Intergenerational Cycle of Violence. She additionally has done extensive research on the prosecution of child sexual abuse cases, intra-familial versus extra-familial childhood sexual abuse, physical and sexual abuse, and the long terms effects of physical abuse and domestic violence.
Work Experience
Ms. Levy was an Assistant District Attorney for the Middle District, Worcester County. While in the District Attorney’s Office she handled prosecutions ranging from attempted murder to operating under the influence of alcohol. As a prosecutor, Ms. Levy gained invaluable practical trial experience while heading the Domestic Violence Unit for over three years and prosecuting adults in both the District and Superior Courts. Ms. Levy represented the Commonwealth in numerous jury trials in addition to presenting cases before the Grand Jury. Prior to joining the District Attorney’s Office Ms. Levy served as a Judicial Law Clerk for all of the Judges in the Probate and Family Courts in Worcester, Plymouth, and Middlesex counties.
Ms. Levy has spent the last ten years as a trial attorney handling hundreds of contested matters in the Probate and Family Courts all over the state of Massachusetts. Her cases have ranged from high conflict divorce actions to mediated settlements. She has a wealth of experience in these matters whether it be custody disputes, parenting plans, alimony and child support actions, or removal cases. She has tried numerous cases in these Courts as well assisting clients in achieving settled agreements. Her criminal practice is similarly diverse and she has spent the last 10 years defending clients accused of crimes such as domestic violence, sex crime offenses, drug offenses to other issues such as drunk driving. She additionally has worked extensively with clients whose families and children have come in contact with the Department of Children and Families. She has worked with clients assisting them with getting their children back home through the Juvenile Court to simply assisting families coordinate and deal with having DCF in their lives. She has had a number of successful outcomes appealing findings of abuse and neglect and getting them overturned through the Fair Hearing process.
